Absent fathers?

Drawing on a national survey of about 600 non-resident fathers in Britain and two in-depth studies using qualitative interviews, Bradshaw (professor of social policy), research student Christine Skinner, research fellow Julie Williams, and the late research fellow Carol Stimson (all associated with the U. of New York) paint a picture of men still struggling to be fathers of non-resident children. The 13 chapters discuss their present circumstances and that of their children, as well as their employment, income and housing circumstances. They suggest that policy makers seeking to enforce financial obligations need to recognize that many men want to have contact and fulfill not only the financial, but also the social and emotional aspects of their roles as fathers.
