Flash Animation for TeensWelcome and congratulations on purchasing Flash Animation for Teens. If you are standing in a bookstore or reading this introduction online, what are you waiting for? Check out and let’s dive right in to learning about Flash.

I’m no mind reader. In fact, I have no fantastic psychic abilities. But I’m going to take a few guesses to see if I know who you are. You may actually be a teenager who is interested in getting started in Flash animation and is looking for a great resource to get started. If so, you’ve come to the right place. You may alternatively be the parent of a teenager or young adult who is looking for a good resource for his or her child to start Flash animation. Once again, if so, you’ve come to the right place. My last guess is that you may not be a teenager or the parent of a teenager at all. You may just be someone who is interested in getting into Flash animation and is looking for a great resource for beginners that isn’t intimidating and won’t lose you in a wilderness of heavy technical jargon and confusing instructions. Don’t let the title of this book restrict you from diving right in. The truth is, this book is specifically designed for anyone who is interested in starting the journey to learning about Flash animation, and there is absolutely no experience necessary.
    The Goal of the Book

If you’ve ever taken a karate class, you know that there are several different-color belts you need to earn before you become a black belt. And even when you do become a black belt, there are different degrees of black belt that set apart your level of expertise. To become a 10th degree black belt, for example, you need to have passed 17 levels. Using the karate analogy, this book will bring you up to about 10 of the 17 levels of Flash. The goal is to give you a solidfoundation in Flash, to get you to a point where you are comfortable creating animations and experimenting on your own. You won’t be an expert when youfinish this book; expertise takes a lot of time and, most of all, practice. But you will be well on your way. This book is meant for those who have little or noexperience in Flash; as a result, several aspects of the program are left out on purpose because they are too advanced for this type of book.
