C# is the key language for Microsoft’s next generation of Windows
services, the .NET platform. This new programming language is fast and
modern and was designed to increase programmer productivity. C# enables
programmers to quickly build a wide range of applications for the new
Microsoft .NET platform. The .Net platform enables developers to build
C# components to become Web services available across the Internet.
Using C# language constructs, these components can be converted into
Web services, allowing them to be invoked across the Internet.
Gunnerson’s book is designed as a comprehensive reference for
professional programmers to help get them up to speed on C#. The author
is a lead developer on Microsoft’s C# development team, and has logged
many developer hours writing and testing C# code. As such, he is
uniquely poised to teach developers the effective use of this new
language. A Microsoft insider, Gunnerson is also able to explain to
readers how C# fits into Microsoft’s new .NET framework. A final
section of the book provides a history of C#, and a language comparison
to other widely used programming languages. Gunnerson’s book provides a
foundation upon which programmers can begin to develop in C#. Among the
core topics covered are the COM+ environment, statements and flow of
execution, classes, structs, interfaces, expressions, arrays, enums,
delegates and events, exception handling, interoperability, and
selected advanced topics.

A roadmap to consistent, high-quality service for any organization A service is typically something created to serve a paying customer, whether internal or external. Some services consist of several processes linked together while others consist of a single process. This book introduces Design for Six Sigma (DFSS), an easy-to-master, yet highly effective data-driven method that prevents defects in any type of service process. The particular focus of this publication is service DFSS, which leads to what the authors term “a whole quality business,” one that takes a proactive stance and gets things right the first time. Not only does the whole quality business produce a high-quality product and offer high-quality services, but it also operates at lower cost and higher efficiency, throughout the entire life cycle, than its competitors because all the links in the supply chain are optimized. Following a detailed overview that sets forth the basic premise and key concepts of service DFSS, the authors offer all the information and tools needed to take advantage of service DFSS within their own organizations, including: Clear and in-depth coverage of the philosophical, organizational, and technical aspects of service DFSS Step-by-step roadmap of the entire service DFSS deployment and execution process Full discussions of all the key methods involved in service DFSS, including axiomatic design, design for X, the theory of inventive problem solving (TRIZ), transfer function, design scorecards, and Taguchi’s method Practical, illustrative examples that demonstrate how the theory is put into practice Assistance in developing the necessary skills in applying DFSS in organizational settings Problems and their solutions are provided at the end of each chapter to help readers grasp the key concepts they need to move forward in the text. Acclaro DFSS Light(r), a Java-based software package that implements axiomatic design processes discussed in Chapter Eight, is available for download from an accompanying Wiley ftp site. Acclaro DFSS Light(r) is a software product of Axiomatic Design Solutions, Inc. This book is ideal as a reference to service DFSS for corporate executives, quality control managers, and process engineers, or as a complete training manual for DFSS teams. It is also a superior textbook for graduate students in management, operations, and quality assurance.

“Professor Nassar has an uncanny ability to demystify the complexities
of telecommunications systems engineering.” Dale N. Hatfield, former
chief, Office of Engineering and Technology, Federal Communications
Commission

Book Provides a Worthy Telecomm Course:
Continuing
its Demystifying Technology series, LLH Technology Publishing’s
Telecommunications Demystified by Carl R. Nassar provides a
wide-ranging tutorial on theory and practical issues using the
requisite math and equations. This book does not provide primarily a
circuit-design or even a system-level, block-diagram treatment;
instead, it seeks to explain the underlying principles, problems,
techniques, and constraints of standard telecommunication functions.
The book covers networks, source coding/decoding, modulators and
demodulators, channel coding and decoding, trellis-coded modulation,
filtering and equalizers, signal detection and estimation, and error
detection and correction, among other topics.

I won’t mislead
you and say this book is an easy read or a quick read. If you plan to
get the most out of it, you need to pay attention and follow the
equations and derivations, which include integrals, differentials,
matrices, and more. Fortunately, the author clearly explains the
transitions from one equation to the next without those fear-inducing
phrases, such as “we can see,” “the derivation is left as an exercise
to the reader,” and “it can be shown.” If you want to increase your
understanding of the issues and answers in digital-communications
systems and some analog systems, this book should help. It also
includes a CD-ROM with a searchable version of the book and tutorials
that support topics in the text.

Six Sigma demands results. These results are delivered by projects
that are tightly linked to customer demands and enterprise strategy. If
you’re leading a Six Sigma initiative in your organization, this
hands-on guide is designed to help you achieve these results quickly
and effectively by treating a Six Sigma project like any other project
that must be managed and completed on time and within budget.

Written by leading Six Sigma expert Thomas Pyzdek, The Six Sigma Project Planner
offers a project management approach to Six Sigma. You’ll learn how to
rigorously measure and analyze problems, implement solutions, and
choose and complete the quality improvement projects that offer the
largest payoff. Pyzdek provides dozens of reproducible, downloadable
project management tools and worksheets for each step of the DMAIC
process (Define-Measure-Analyze-Improve-Control). The step-by-step
guidelines will help your team:

  • Identify high-payoff projects to tackle
  • Define project goals and estimated ROI
  • Employ breakthrough techniques to develop and implement entirely new processes that meet project goals
  • Correct problems in current processes
  • Identify stalled projects and jumpstart them–or pull the plug before they consume too much time and resources
  • Perform a process capability study using Statistical Process Control
  • Establish control and continuous improvement systems

The Six Sigma Project Planner enables all team leaders to identify the “Critical Path” to successful project completion–while you stay on time and on budget.

There is more to “object-oriented” than application programming. Object-oriented methods have revolutionized the way analysts, designers, software engineers, project managers, and tool builders construct entire software systems.

Object-Oriented System Development will help you to better understand the role of analysis and design in the object-oriented development process. Rather than subscribing to a particular object-oriented method, this book gives step-by-step instructions on how to put key object-oriented concepts to work in software construction. Many examples, including a full banking system, are developed throughout the book to illustrate the process of object-oriented software development from analysis, through design, and into implementation.

Although geared to software professionals involved in the development of medium, large, and distributed systems, Object-Oriented System Development is equally valuable to anyone who wants to gain a detailed technical perspective on the object-oriented software development process.
