PIC Microcontroller Project Book

PIC Microcontroller Project Book

This book starts from the very basic concepts of programming PIC microcontrollers using the basic language. The difference with this book to all the others I have read is how John Iovine makes it all so simple. He has detailed intructions of all his projects which are some of the most exciting I have yet seen. He uses microcontrollers to interface with servo motors,DC motors AC appliances & stepper motors to name a few. The strength of Iovines approach is in the Pic programming software which converts your basic program into machine code. This enables you to write short tight programs which, because a basic interpreter is not required, run very fast indeed. The hardware required is clearly stated with each Chapter and is very reasonbly priced. A list of suppliers is also included. In short this is a ‘must-have’ book for anybody starting out experimenting with microcontrollers. It is also very suitable for ‘intermediates’and younger people who have an interest in electronics and want to know more about what microcontrollers will do in a wonderfully readable format. Enjoy!

  • Rails Solutions: Ruby on Rails Made Easy - Friends of ED

Rails Solutions: Ruby on Rails Made Easy - Friends of ED

    In this book you'll learn:
How to develop web applications quickly and easily with the Ruby on Rails framework
The basics of programming principles and Ruby syntax, so you can begin to understand what's going on under the hood
How to implement must-have web application features, such as user accounts, data validation, sending e-mail, image uploading, and more
How to use Ajax techniques with Rails and when not to use them
How to implement other Web 2.0 features in Rails, such as tag clouds and microformats

If you're a web designer or developer who thinks that the coding involved in developing dynamic web applications is too difficult, think again. This book, and the framework it covers, is the perfect solution to your needs. Ruby on Rails provides an easy-to-use method for quickly developing web applications, simplifying potentially complicated subjects such as web architecture, JavaScript, and SQL/database creation. The simplicity of Rails belies its power, though—this technology is used by major companies such as 37Signals and Google.

  • Security in E-Learning

Security in E-LearningAs e-learning increases in popularity and reach, more people are taking online courses and thus need to understand security issues relevant to this topic. Security in E-Learning discusses typical threats to e-learning projects and introduces how these issues have been and should be addressed. This knowledge is essential to conduct a security risk analysis effectively, because participants need to be aware of common threats, protection mechanisms and effort/cost issues. Based on the security risk analysis, appropriate preventive measures are thoroughly discussed in this book. Security in E-Learning is designed for a professional audience composed of researchers and practitioners in industry and IT professionals. This volume is also suitable for upper undergraduate-level and graduate-level students in computer science.

  • Embedded Systems — Modeling, Technology, and Applications

Embedded Systems — Modeling, Technology, and ApplicationsThe International Workshop on “Embedded Systems — Modeling, Technology, and Applications” is the seventh in a successful series of workshops that were established by Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Technische Universität Berlin. The goal of those workshops is to bring together researchers from both universities in order to present research results to an international community. Successfully realizing Embedded Systems requires methods and tools from different disciplines. Formal specification techniques not only for the embedded system itself but also for the device and environment that is controlled by the embedded system are used for functional and non-functional properties (e.g. performance, real-time behavior). Formal models allow analyzing and optimizing those properties. Different methods and tools are used to design the required behavior of the system and finally to implement and test the system. Aspects covered in this workshop are, among others,
    • Models and specification
    • Simulation of different properties
    • Middleware for distributed real-time systems
    • Signal Analysis
    • Control methods
    • Applications in airborne and medical systems.

  • Adaptive Wireless Transceivers: Turbo-Coded, Turbo-Equalized and Space-Time Coded TDMA, CDMA, and OFDM Systems

Adaptive Wireless Transceivers: Turbo-Coded, Turbo-Equalized and Space-Time Coded TDMA, CDMA, and OFDM SystemsAdaptive Wireless Transceivers provides the reader with a broad overview of near-instantaneously adaptive transceivers in the context of TDMA, CDMA and OFDM systems. The adaptive transceivers examined employ powerful turbo codecs, turbo equalisers and space-time codecs, equipping the reader with a future-proof technological road map. It demonstrates that adaptive transceivers are capable of mitigating the channel quality fluctuations of the wireless channel as a lower-complexity alternative to space-time coding. By contrast, if the higher complexity of multiple transmitters and multiple receiver-assisted systems is deemed acceptable, the advantages of adaptability erode.

Provides an in-depth introduction to channel equalisers and Kalman filtering and discusses the associated complexity versus performance trade-offs
Introduces wideband near-instantaneously adaptive transceivers and studies their performance both with and without turbo channel coding
Describes how to optimise adaptive modulation mode switching and highlights a range of practical considerations
Introduces neural network based channel equalisers and discusses Radial Basis Function (RBF) assisted equalisers embedded into adaptive modems supported by turbo channel coding and turbo channel equalisation
Employs the above adaptive principles also in the context of CDMA and OFDM transceivers and discusses the pros and cons of space-time coding versus adaptive modulation
