  • Business Coaching: Achieving Practical Results Through Effective Engagement

Business Coaching: Achieving Practical Results Through Effective EngagementThe aim of this book is primarily to enable those wanting to invest in coaching to be able to do so in the most effective way whether they are doing this as an organisation or as an individual. It illustrates the impact coaching can have and identifies changes in leadership and management demands and expectations. We consider what a coachee gets out of coaching, different formats for coaching and its potential value at Board level, including for the Chief Executive Officer, and for other individuals or groups such as new recruits or those who have just been promoted. We look at the difference between coaching and mentoring and the potential benefits that both can have, especially in combination. We look at how coaching programmes can be introduced effectively and how a leader might introduce coaching in their organisation. We address the international dimension with many organisations looking to ensure that leadership is based on similar values throughout its global reach. This book is unashamedly about business coaching. Quality coaching engagement will impact into an individual’s wider life priorities and use of time and energy. But the effective delivery of business priorities has to be at the basis of introducing business coaching.

Managing Humans: Biting and Humorous Tales of a Software Engineering Manager

Managing Humans: Biting and Humorous Tales of a Software Engineering Manager Managing Humans is a selection of the best essays from Michael Lopp's web site, Rands In Repose. Drawing on Lopp's management experiences at Apple, Netscape, Symantec, and Borland, this book is full of stories based on companies in the Silicon Valley where people have been known to yell at each other. It is a place full of dysfunctional bright people who are in an incredible hurry to find the next big thing so they can strike it rich and then do it all over again. Among these people are managers, a strange breed of people who through a mystical organizational ritual have been given power over your future and your bank account. Whether you're an aspiring manager, a current manager, or just wondering what the heck a manager does all day, there is a story in this book that will speak to you.

    Fundamentals of Preventive Maintenance

"Plant engineers and maintenance managers know from experience: All manufacturing equipment will break down, often at the worst possible moment. To survive in today's lean-and-mean manufacturing environment, companies must head off these breakdowns with a preventive-maintenance management program that is both systematic and flexible — and geared toward minimizing downtime and maximizing equipment life. Fundamentals of Preventive Maintenance provides readers with an easy-to-follow, economically sensible maintenance and workorder management program. This results-driven guidebook outlines a 7-step process for designing and implementing the program, describing what needs to be done — and why. Designed to transform an often unwieldy program into one that can be effectively managed, it provides hands-on techniques for: * Establishing critical scheduling protocols * Managing the daily workorder schedule * Developing and issuing preventive maintenance workorders * Monitoring the program and making improvements"

  • Intra-Enterprise Business Process Management

Business Process Management within an enterprise is the focus of MQSeries Workflow. This redbook describes the steps to implement a business process model. The solution brings together a number of business applications and provides a browser-based interface for any human interaction with a business process instance.
The applications that are linked together are implemented using a number of technologies. At one end, the solution integrates CICS transactions running on a z/OS back-end system. On the other end, it integrates Enterprise JavaBeans running in a WebSphere Application Server. The application integration is implemented by using MQSeries Integrator and the MQSeries Adapter Offering.
In this redbook, the business process model is built and extended in a number of steps. At each implementation phase, the reader is focused on deficiencies in the current implementation. Step-by-step the business process is refined to handle more exceptional conditions, to make sure that service level agreements are met and to make sure that profit margin is not impacted.
Finally, the redbook shows how the audit information of the business process management system can be used to improve the implementation even more.
