Making Rain: The Secrets of Building Lifelong Client Loyalty

Making Rain: The Secrets of Building Lifelong Client LoyaltyWhether business leaders want a steady drizzle or an out-and-out monsoon, they can use Sobel's formula for landing and keeping customers-what he calls "making rain." Based on building relationships, it starts with the key components of knowledge, service and demonstrable value; these are the building blocks that attract clients, says business adviser Sobel (Clients for Life). In this straightforward manual, he gives practical strategies to help leaders of service firms and large corporations alike become indispensable advisers to their clients, thus cementing a long-term connection. The principles behind his tactics are simple: get to know your client, gain respect for your knowledge and win personal respect. Then, drive it home by delivering above and beyond, again and again. These ideas are old as dirt. Sobel reaches across centuries to dig up examples of their success, from Aristotle to Ben Franklin. He buffs up these ageless notions and places them within engaging anecdotes. Although the lessons aren't strokes of genius, they should help professionals through most dry spells.

  • Ageless Marketing Strategies for Reaching the Hearts and Minds of the New Customer Majority

Ageless Marketing Strategies for Reaching the Hearts and Minds of the New Customer MajorityToday's richest market is the New Customer Majority: middle-aged and older adults who make up the biggest percentage of the buying public. Never before have adults 40 years and older been in the majority. Understanding this population and persuasively selling to it require a new kind of marketing research arsenal.

In Ageless Marketing, authors David Wolfe and Robert Snyder document the results of a groundbreaking research project on the aging boomer generation, detailing the core values, buying behaviors, and emotional factors that distinguish the New Customer Majority. As more companies seek sales from multiple age groups, ""ageless marketing"" becomes critical to financial performance. Companies that master its subtleties have realized amazing profits. New Balance, for example, saw an annual rate of 25 percent or more with its ageless marketing themes, even when the athletic shoe industry had shown no growth since 1997.

  • In Search of Stupidity: Over Twenty Years of High Tech Marketing Disasters, Second Edition

In Search of Stupidity: Over Twenty Years of High Tech Marketing Disasters, Second EditionThis book was excellent, it answered all my “What ever happened to … ?” questions. It recast public common knowledge into a very revealing and HUMOROUS set of mistakes at a strategic level with plenty of indisputable concrete examples (something that a lot of books lack). It deals only with the top players in the industry and is not explicitly about strategy for small start ups, though it does have many scalable concepts and excellent pointers for any development manager (vis-a-vie:Spolsky). I couldn’t put the book down till chapter 10 (regarding MS/Bill Gates).

I was shocked at the first 10 pages revealed that he was innocent of most the villainous accusations against him, but then it got spicy again with specific revelations into his anti-trust faux pas. Factually, I found only one mistake regarding the positive public opinion on Gates prior to Netscape (probably due to the seething from the cumulative conniptions induced by MS-Word crashes in the early 90s) … for the book, this is extremely minor and very forgivable given its educational and enjoyment value. It was an excellent book.

  • Building Your eBay Traffic the Smart Way

Building Your eBay Traffic the Smart Way

If you think making money on eBay was easy before—just wait till you try this!

What if you could double your eBay sales with one mouse click? Sound impossible? Welcome to the next big development in the world of online auctions: datafeeds.
Using a datafeed to export your eBay auction listings, your items will now surface in shopping-focused searches performed by engines like Yahoo! Shopping, Amazon, and Google’s new Froogle service.
Instead of a general search, which finds thousands of Web pages that merely mention an item, sites like Froogle and Yahoo! Shopping return a list of online retailers who actually sell the product. Would you like to be on those lists?
Building Your eBay Traffic the Smart Way gives you dozens of new strategies for reaching people whose only goal is to buy. With auction management software or a service, your eBay business information is kept in a database that can feed information to other e-commerce systems—like Froogle, Yahoo! Shopping, Amazon, and other product search engines.
Which means that your product is now available not only to eBay buyers but also to a whole new universe of online shoppers!
Building Your eBay Traffic the Smart Way also unlocks the incredible power of cross-selling (linking from one auction to another), targeted advertising, pro-quality photography, eBay stores, online malls, and much more!
