Nanotechnology : Science, Innovation, and Opportunity
Suddenly, nanotechnology isn’t science fiction or mere theory: It’s becoming one of the world’s fastest-growing, highest-impact industries. In Nanotechnology: Science, Innovation, and Opportunity, the field’s leading experts offer an up-to-the-minute briefing on where the industry stands now, how it will unfold over the coming decade, and how it will impact you.
Edited by a key industry advisor, this book covers the latest in nanotech science, technology, and applications. You’ll meet the key players, and discover nanotech at work in fields ranging from drug delivery to energy efficiency. Here are the opportunities, the challenges, and the implications: all you need to know about today’s nanotech business–and tomorrow’s.

It is a distinct philosophy and science which strengthens the age-old faith in the correction of bodily disorders and restoration of health through elements freely available in nature. It brings home the basic fact that healing is brought about by the inherent curative powers of the body!
“…’Well done!’ If the members of the media who have been so critical of the Secret Service… would have read this book, they might understand where we are coming from.” -P. Hamilton Brown, Executive Secretary The Association of Former Agents of the U.S. Secret Service, Inc. “Having the covered the White House for 35 years, I think Dale June has written a fascinating and marvelously instructive book on what it takes to protect a President or VIP. It’s an eye-opener on those heroes who are dedicated to take a bullet to save a life, and it is “must” reading for those who aspire to the profession of executive protection and, in fact, for all Americans.” -Helen Thomas, White House Bureau Chief, United Press International Promo Copy
Deals with the topic of interference (electromagnetic compatibility) in electronic systems. It builds on basic undergraduate electrical engineering concepts and principles and applies them to the design of electronic systems that operate compatibly with other electronic systems and do not create interference phenomena. To facilitate classroom teaching it is divided in two parts. The first provides the basic principles and skills for review, while the second refers to applications and aspects of EMC design.

From a science-centered perspective, this new resource focuses on the physical and geological aspects, structure and features of 24 of earth’s landforms — what they are, how they look, how they were created, how they change over time, and major geological events associated with them. Written for middle school students to support earth science and landform-related assignments, alphabetically arranged entries follow a standard and consistent subheaded format; range in length from nine to 11 pages; and cover common and unusual landforms such as canyon, cliff, plateau, valley, volcano and many more. Entries include a description and overview of physical features or characteristics and their relationship to connected areas; how the landform is shaped including constructive and destructive forces involved and additional changes that can occur; types of life supported; and famous examples of landforms. Included are 25 maps, charts and graphs; 180 full-color photos and illustrations; words to know; bibliography; and comprehensive index.
E-Learning and Virtual Science Centers addresses an aspect of Web-based education that has not attracted sufficient attention in the international research literature – that of virtual science centers, the cyberspace annex of traditional science centers. It is the first book to be published on the rapidly advancing field of science education. Addressed to science and technology centers, science museums, and researchers in Web-based education, this book provides an overview of the state-of-the-art developments in this new and emerging field of science education. Written for practitioners by practitioners, the 20 chapters featured in this book represent the contributions of more than 40 authors from over 10 countries – truly an international effort and a veritable gauge of state-of-the-art perspectives. E-Learning and Virtual Science Centers features theoretical issues, design considerations in the setting up virtual science centers, and case studies on various aspects of the field.
The Origin and Evolution of the Solar System begins by describing historical, i.e. pre-1950, theories and illustrating why they became unacceptable. The main part then critically examines five extant theories, including the current paradigm, the Solar Nebula Theory, to determine how well they fit with accepted scientific principles and observations.
SMS or Text is one of the most popular forms of messaging. Yet, despite its immense popularity, SMS has remained unexamined by science. Not only that, but the commercial organisations, who have been forced to offer SMS by a demanding public, have had very little idea why it has been successful. Indeed, they have, until very recently, planned to replace SMS with other messaging services such as MMS. This book is the first to bring together scientific studies into the values that ‘texting’ provides, examining both cultural variation in countries as different as the Philippines and Germany, as well as the differences between SMS and other communications channels like Instant Messaging and the traditional letter. It presents usability and design research which explores how SMS will evolve and what is likely to be the pattern of person-to-person messaging in the future. In short, Inside Text is a fundamental resource for anyone interested in mobile communications at the start of the 21st Century The book will be of interest to anyone in the CHI, CSCW and mobile communications research areas, as well as sociologists, anthropologists, communications scientists and policy makers.
Intuit’s Quicken is one of today’s most popular and convenient ways to keep track of personal finances, and Quicken 2006 For Starters: The Missing Manual for Windows is the indispensable guide to using the program to simplify your finances and make the most of your money.
Principles of Research Design in the Social Sciences is a book for researchers who know what they want to study but who have yet to decide how best to study it. This book does not aim to provide a set of rigid recipes for social scientists; rather, it is intended to stimulate them to think about the issues involved when deciding upon their research design.
